i'd like an application i can run on one of my windows boxes at home, which will allow me to stick in my dynamic DSN adress and prompt me to stick in a username and password through an IE/FF window and give me remote desktop workings through it......

anyone know of anything or any similar options?

thats blocked outgoing in work.

i really need something which i can use though IE.

i tried realVNC, it seems to think it can be accessed through any java enabled client but it was having none of it when i tried (on the port i setup to serve on) i got no response at all, even within the network in the house.

*edit* i've just read your post properly..... web based system you say..... i'll take a look

try tightvnc, thats what i used (before i installed a dialupline in work to get around the firewall)

tried tight VNC, also seems to be blocked. they really seem to have went to town on blocking anything and everything.

so far i've tried tight (and real) VNC, windows remote desktop (which i've just realised that the web version also needs port 3389 open for so i dunno if that will work) and did have logmein.com working till it was re-clasified as a virus risk.......

Karbon,

Use www.logmein.com click signup and you will find a free version.

You install the client on your PC at home, then you go to www.logmein.com, log in with your user id and password then you have full remote access to your PC all for free and super quick too.

Are they blocking protocols or ports? If they are blocking ports then just change the port of RDP or VNC to whatever ports happen to be open on the works firewall.

a combination of the 2 i think.

tried VNC through port 80, and that failed.

logmein is blocked through smartfilter.

so i'm thinking if i have my home PC running as a server with IE access it will be seen as just normal HTTP traffic and if the adress gets blocked i can get a new one without any difficulty.

try Radmin on port 80 as well.

Assuming you're using a router, you have correctly set up port forwarding to your home PC I assume?

aye, everything i've tried from here has been tried from another external source to verify it works before attempting it from inside my works ridiculous security.

just tried hamachi, and can't install it on PC in work........

not had a chance to install the web remote desktop yet, so i'll probably do that at lunch today.

till then.... any more suggestions?

p.s thanks a lot to everyone that has helped so far :)

This is the way to do it. I have the same problem but I have solved it by changing the port VNC listens on to port 80, then only allowing my works external IP range to connect to VNC, changed my IIS to port 81 (for my web development stuff) then used the latest version of real vnc viewer to connect using port 80 (123.456.789.12::80).

Oh and to simplify knowing what my external IP address is at home (as it changed every 2 days or so) I have registered with NOip which works a treat!

registered with dyndns, so thats sorted.

got RealVNC running on port 80, but i've tried that and its havning none of it.

just checked actually, i changed my router remote control access to port 8080 and i can still access that. so i presume its just being blocked by protocol.
