My 200mm big boy fan in my mini p180 has started to squeal or whine. Doesn't matter what rpm or speed I set it at it will just whine away... Highly annoying considering everything else is silent.

Can anyone recommend a high end 200mm fan that would fit please?

Had my Antec 1200 for 2.5 years now and that fan is still the same for me as when i bought it, like Aged says maybe try re oiling it.

Will wd40 work?? I don't wait to drip and run down to my gpu... if I was to use grease, which would be best?

Really don't wanna fork out £20 for another big boy tbh.

Car engine oil would work fine, u will have to get to the bearings on the fan and put a couple of drops on them, never stripped mine apart and i can't atm as it's running :P
u will want to run the fan at full pelt out of the system first to make sure any excess oil has gone.

I'm nervous lol, this sounds highly dangerous!! Although oil isn't a conductor I don't want a oil stained case!

Overall I believe that you may have 3 options although one of these depends....

1. Cheapest - oil it. BUT this at best is probably only going to be a short term solution assuming that it works at all. I'd go with wd to start with ; if it worked might try a thicker oil later. Would try to install and to start with run outside the case ,; just ion case it throws oil everywhere etc

2. Simplest and with a definate result - buy a new one ( what's £20 for a few more years reliability and peace and quiet). You might be able to get one for a little less than £20 if you shop around.

3. Now this one depends on where the fan fixings are , depth of fan etc - Could you replace with a different make of 200mm fan ? ( just be careful - I found , for example, that coolermaster/nzxt/bitfennix all have different fixing points, depths etc and as I had a nzxt case only there own 200mm fans would actually screw in properly and some 200mm fans are , in fact 220mm/230mm)
Other makes are often a bit cheaper - coolermasters come to mind.
BTW the bit fennix ones I bought were thin (which is what I wanted) but are a bit more fragile than the bigger coolermaster/nzxt and are nothing like as good at shifting air.

Overall if I intended to keep and use the case for a few years I'd go for the new fan :)

Last observation - Antec products sometimes come with a 3 yr warranty - might be worth looking into? BEFORE you oil it

Oil does not always fix fans, depends how worn out the bearing is too. I always try to oil them 1st but sometimes they work fine and other times they carry on making funny noises.

WD40 is fine to clean the bearing and oil them, but if you find it still makes noises try a sewing machine type oil or as someone said car engine oil but make sure to clean the run off and spin the fan outside of the case for a bit and move it round while its spinning to get any extra oil out. The sticker on the back of most fans hides a rubber plug that can be pulled out and oil can be put there. Honestly if you have had the fan a long time it's not worth the hassle sometimes because the bearings are probably worn out and no amount of oil will help, but worth a try .. costs nothing to try,

OCUK, we need more larger fan sizes... 180mm all way up to 230mm would be good sizes to stock as many of us are now going the route of larger fans in our cases to keep noise levels down.
