I want a new router for my new home. my current one works fine (NET GEAR DGN3500) but as i need more ports i would like have it all in one instead of 2 boxes & 2 power cords.

Heres the list of what i need:
Gigabit
6/8 ports
Supports ADSL+2 & allows you to change VCI & VPI (for BE*)
Wireless N 2.4ghz (5Ghz is a bonus)
fairly easy to use (web based admin panel)

What its going to be used for:
Imac
Linux Fedora File Server
Gaming Rig Win 7 soon
Drobo (think of getting one)
PS3
extra for diagnostic testing.

Wireless Connections
Wii
2x Ipod
3 laptops + visitors.

hop you can help i couldn't find a router with 6/8 ports :(

Seriously, stop being a jessy about having two devices plugged in (what's the problem with it, you're going to have 8 devices connected to it, why not have one more?) and buy a decent switch.

A decent router should be a router, not a router and switch and access point and print server and...

Your problem here is not sourcing an 8-port ADSL Modem Router, there are the Linksys BEFSR81 for about £100 and the more expensive Netgear DGFV338 - it is with finding one that includes Gigabit ports. You would be better off with a suitable 4-port Gigabit ADSL Modem Router and an 8-port Gigabit switch.

If he is buying a gigabit switch, he might as well stick with whatever router he has, even if its 10/100. The bottleneck will be the DSL connection anyway, so a 10/100 link between the router and switch won't matter one jot.

So to that end, either keep what you have and buy a gigabit switch, or buy the cheapest suitable router you can find (even if its 10/100) and then a gigabit switch.

Thankyou for your help, i will stick with my current router thats gigabit as suggested.

could you reccomend me a decent gigabit switch? (as all my Computers are gigabit & i do transfer a far amount of data between computers as i do a lot of HD video editing & file storage. (normally transfer around 100GB-200GB at once)

thanks again
Sam
