No mate that's a cable router (with only an RJ45 ethernet cable port). You need an ADSL2+ modem/router with integrated ADSL2+ modem which accepts the smaller RJ11 cables. You 'could' use it by buying a separate ADSL2+ modem to go with it (I used to do that so I could run the awesome WRT54GL cable router on LLU ADSL2+) but that'll be pointless for you.

Personally with only 2Mbps to worry about I'd just get something cheap and cheerful. A second-hand Netgear DG834GT would do you perfectly, and can run fantastic after-market firmware such as DGTeam. That allows much finer-grained control of the connection (including SNR tweaks which stay across router reboots), and just because they're cheap these days don't think they're no good. They were the creme-de-la-creme of their day for ADSL2+ and with only 2Mbps WAN > LAN you won't need 'faster' wifi such as Wireless N.

You can get one for £15 all inclusive, with all cables etc included, on a certain well known auction site. Just look around. You won't regret it. :)

thanx man but i dont want netgear and i want brand new not used!!! any others anyone can recommend?

Any particular reason why? Routers have no moving parts and so tend to last forever, making a second hand purchase nothing of any consequence. Even so, you could buy four as-new but used DG834GTs for the price of one crappy new router that's not half as good! :p

If you don't want a Netgear for whatever reason, and given that you've not stated any particular needs or requirements from a router, I'd just stick a pin in this list based on what you want to pay and have done with it.

I've been on cable for years and build my own routers rather than rely on consumer ones, so I can't be of much further help, sorry. Hopefully now this has been bumped up a bit someone else might chip in for you.

Cheers.

I dunno about the chipset mate, you'd have to Google it or wait for someone who knows. Just as an FYI though, the aforementioned DG834GT is Broadcom too and half the price. :p The TP-Link routers are supposed to be quite decent for what they are though, so I daresay you'll be fine especially on 2Mbps. It likely won't offer SNR tweaking though so you'll lose that, and it can be handy on a long line.

That said if you got a different model TP-Link you could put DD-WRT on it instead, which does offer that feature. Here's their router model database you can check against.

Just so you know, Virgin Media aren't known for their great ADSL service..

I'd consider jumping to Plusnet or BT

are you joking? bt is one of the worst isps in the UK !!!! i have been on bt a long time ago and will never EVER go with them EVER AGAIN!
call centre is in india, no joke! they cant speak proper english, they do not know what they are talking about, they cap the speed too much and when you do get capped you get capped for the whole month! with virgin you are capped until 12am that night, which is fine by me

I was on BT ADSL for half a year before jumping to their Infinity package in April 2011, and they didn't cap any speeds at all. They're not that bad anymore :p.

Maybe you should check what's avaliable at your exchange... Virgin's ADSL is rubbish...
