hey guys,
was looking to get my second (or rather first) PC and my 360 onto the internet alongside my second PC. for which i know i will need a router.

however i am unsure which to get, my internet does not come through a phone line, but rather, the things they use to run Digital TV into a house...i think they are called co-axial ( ).
so i need a router that will utilise this (and am unsure which ones do...ie cable/ADSL etc) i have a budget of £30 maybe £40.

thanks in advance

dont you know who you pay your bills to?

asking me if its cable or ADSL isn't, in my mind asking me which ISP i'm with, if i knew what i were doing in regards to networking/ADSL/cable or what have you i wouldn't have needed to have asked such a bunch of tight arses.

not in refrerence to divaboy, thanks for the help mate, glad to see some people still give it without running people into the ground because of lack of knowledge

cos your on here asking for help and we need basic info like cable or adsl as there are 2 types of router, and provider is a starting point when you dont know what you need.

i was asking you which type i need...what would be the point of coming on here and saying "i need a cable router, should i go cable or ADSL" :/

Because we were trying to work out what service you were on from the tiny bit of information you gave us, and knowing what ISP you were on would've given a bloody big clue.

You don't have to be a CCIE to be able to take a photo of the modem, give it's model number (it'll almost certainly be printed on it) or anything that would've given us a huge clue.

Civility costs nothing either - calling Keeny and I a "bunch of tight arses" isn't exactly the way to go, and no one's ran you into the ground...

then why does no one say"which ISP are you on mate, that would help us a bit", instead i get asked the question i just asked "cable or ADSL"

yeah, easy mistake to make, i've had a bad day at work, i apologise for my snappyness :( :p

and i forgot to specify 'wired' as i can't afford to buy a wireless card and the wireless reciever for my 360 as well :(

all three are in my room, so i don't need great range, hence why wired will do

either of those will do wired and wireless so you can upgrade later

ahh i didnt realise a wired one could be either, i just assumed that wired did wired connections, and wireless was for wireless

p.s. this is much more helpful now :)
