need a silent cooler for E2180 (htpc)

the silentpcreview site says the f7p performs really well with fan turned up but its cooling is poor at lower levels. i had it on order somewhere and was able to cancel it before order was processed :D

what case? sorry if you mentioned it already, but most of the tower coolers wont fit in a htpc case

hi my htpc is a silverstone case LC17, i have 140mm height from the mobo surface to the inside lid and plenty of room around the cpu, however im not sure where the cpu is positioned on my new mobo im getting.

same case as mine. tuniq towers, thermalright 120-ultra's, scythe ninja's ect...none of the fit. they are all a good inch or two too tall. so any tower-type cooler with a 120mm fan, forget it. a tower with a 92mm fan would be a very tight squeeze, if it with in at all.

stick to orb coolers really, its the only way.

what did you go for m8, Thermalright Ultima-90i this is 139mm and should just fit but i will need to measure acurately to check but its £25 plus 90mm fan

did you measure that height from the top of the cpu, in the socket? because if you measured from the motherboard surface, that cooler wont fit either. the surface of the cpu is what, half an inch higher than the board i guess?

ive just got a thermaltake orb cooler thingy in mine. low profile, 120mm fan. silent, and my e2160 runs at 3.1ghz. more than quick enough for a htpc:)

WOW  your a star mate its £4 for the fitting kit to adapt my zalman hs and fan to fit my new 775 cpu. Thanks to everyone for there input but i would be cheaper buying this kit and using my existing hs and fan.

saved me quite a few quid mate, nice one ;)

cheeky sod

it never clicked with me as i did not know for sure what zalman product i have and i still dont know so i am assuming it is the 7000 not the (A) or (B) version.

i noticed there was a fitting kit but i could not be sure, after reading up a lot more on my zalman i reckon it is a 7000 and so should fot with the adapter kit

anyway big thanks to all, at least its gave us all something to talk about. :D
