Need a small plastic clip ‘cloned’...

That’s incredible! You sir are something of an expert with Tinkercad! I spent an age before trying to work it out and gave up in the end!!

The part in your design looks pretty darn accurate, aside from the internal angular pieces, but honestly please don’t go to any more trouble though, you’ve all done more than enough.

I havent actually done anything at all - I can give you that model to edit if you like though. Alternatively send me the part and ill 3d scan and print the thing.

That’s incredibly generous of you! Might take you up on that offer. Thanks again

Just out of interest what are you using to 3d scan with?

I work with CAD (Mostly Solidworks) and quite fancied having a go at scanning some parts for assemblies, mainly visuals for customers.

Well @deuse gave me this bad boy and i haven't had a proper play or test yet but yea thats a diy 3d scanner!

Thanks for that, I've seen them using an old Kinect camera with something like that, does that use a phone or something?

Sorry to derail the thread....this is pretty cool.

***EDIT***

Just watched the video on thingiverse, nice piece of kit but probably out of my ham fisted skill set lol.

It's not a difficult build even for the ham fisted it should be possible :D

Thanks again. If I take up your kind offer I’d be in no rush at all for it, so don’t worry about timings.

Just had another look at your pictures to see what you meant by the middle bit ;)

That's probably a bit closer to the actual part although if I had the part I could just edit this to work.

As an aside printing a part like this that will be used and potentially under strain quite often the type of material used to print, quality of the layer adhesion and so on will be crucial or it won't last long (common materials used for 3D printing tend to be quite brittle and snap easily unless well designed) - additionally stuff like PLA will tend to warp somewhat even under moderately strong sunlight and potentially break down over time if exposed to moisture so if you were using a toolbox in the field potentially unsuitable (though relatively cheap and easy to print a new one periodically).

I recon if you print that in carbon fibre with enough infill it will be plenty strong enough... I've used the carbon fibre to replace a gromit (between two geared wheels) in my shower and its holding up really well.

That really is fantastic. Looks remarkably close to the actual part!

If you had a set of callipers you could make it exact in 20 mins :D, I could even show you how. I really am not joking when I say its about 5 mins to model that part in tinkercad. To be fair the hard part is making it a perfect fit and adjusting the model for the printer. Most models I make that need to be a snug fit take a couple of test prints and some small mods to the model after.

It really is a superb skill set that you have! I tinkered for ages before and gave up as I couldn’t get anywhere near it!

I don’t actually have callipers, although it’s something I had previously considered adding to my toolbox. This might just push me to get some...
