I'm building/upgrading my dads PC, it pains me to see him play games like neverwinter nights with poor framerates (I'm sure you get the picture).

So far I have:

E6600
8800GTS
2x2GB 800MHz G-Skill DDR2
corsair VX 450W (will be purchasing)

I need a decent mobo for this, I've had Asus boards and really like them, but been looking at others too. OS will be vista 64 for now, I see a lot of budget boards are restricted to 4GB RAM but this isn't so much a problem as that's all I have. The main problem is that when I research the budget boards (<£60) overclocking them seems problematic due to the lack of some bios settings, but I want to crank the E6600 up to a stock-volt stable overclock.

Does anyone have any suggestions for budget 775 motherboards? Would be much appreciated, cheers.

After much deliberation and some input from this forum I narrowed down to either an ASUS P5Q or a Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3LR. Finally went with the Gigabyte board at around £70 inc VAT.

(Using a Q6600 with Win 7 64 bit)

thanks for the info iwikhtdt, have been looking at the Gagabyte board, have you overclocked your Q6600 with this board? if so, how well did it clock?

Not yet. The board is still on its way to me.

I'm hoping, when it arrives, that I'll be able to get my Q6600 somewhere north of 3.0Ghz+ and stable.

I have a Q6600 and a Abit FP9-SLI board. Dont get one.

Get an Asus P5Q or something from that range. Went round a mates yesterday to format his machine, who also has a Q6600 in a P5Q. Within about 2 minutes it was running at 3ghz . I could have easily got more, however his cooler wasnt the greatest. Tested for an hour, and it was perfectly stable. He was gaming all night, today he has reported no issues, just a happy smile :)

I could get 3.6ghz most prob without much more hassle, so ive told him to get a better cooler!

thanks for the info chaps, gonna go with the P5QL/EPU from ocuk here, also have an artic cooling alpine 7 pro cooler to put on it so hopefuly I can get a decent oc to 3GHz +.
