I've got £1200. Need everything apart from keyboard/mouse. Even need speakers. Will be used for general web/email/office and occasional gaming.

1 question i've got is about processors. A lot of people I speak to say the AMD X2's are the way to go but other people are saying it's best to go with a Opteron (something like a 170) because it's a similar price to the X2 4400 and capable of a lot more.

Cheers!

the optis are apparently better for overclocking but you get better stock speeds with the X2 4400 than you do with its closest opteron rival (price wise) the 170

so if you are going to overclock I'd go for the Opteron UP 170 ... £323.07inc.
but if you're leaving it at stock I'd go for the AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+..£333.64inc.

as for the rest ...
