Hi guys!!

OK im looking to build a new system, i havent built one in about 2 years though... has technology changed that much?

Anyway, budget is £350

Here is the components i have already....

Monitor (40" Samsung LCD)
Mouse/Keyboard
DVD writer

So, what i need is:

Case
PSU
Mobo
Memory
HDD
Memory
GFX card
CPU
Sound card (Could cope with a on board one for now?)

Also, im currently on Windows XP Home.... should i upgrade to Vista? If so, budget for O/S is seperate from the build :)

Obviously not looking for a leet gaming machine for the money, but i use the PC for Internet/Movies/Music... the usual ;)

..I think thats it? :D

Spec away please :)

The budget is pretty tight so this is about as good as I can do, use XP for the moment, it is still a great OS and it saves some cash.

Hope you don't game that much, as a X1950 256Mb in those specs above is really gonna struggle on that 40" unless you scale down a lot ;)

It might depend on exactly which model that AsaTDi has but some 40" screens are 1366x768 which is rather less demanding than a 17" monitor with a resolution of 1280x1024. Although admittedly the Samsung that is advertised on OcUK just now appears to be 1920x1080 which might be a bit more of an issue, however the budget doesn't really allow for that much of a change to be made to the graphics card. :)

Its quite a tall order with that big screen, saying that my friend has recently got an LG 40somthing inch tv, and games look fine at 1680x1050, desktop/apps looks a bit shady though, If you had a seperate (cheap)monitor for general pc use and use the telly for gaming/movies its not to bad.

my mate uses an old 20" crt for desktop work, and puts movies through dvi with an hdmi adaptor for watching films/occasional games. however, he lives in a studio flat, so its all close to each other anyway.
