I`m an AMD man thru and thru but my mate want a new computer and I know conroe is the way to go at the moment. Because of my AMD fetish I have low knowledge of Intel so please could someone spec me a £4-500 possibly a little higher system?

He just needs case and inards nothing else :)

why don't you try? post the system then people will check it. If you ask other people to do it for you, you get little knowledge of what to look for in "new" gen specifications. Not having a rant, but you can do it. Try it?

Does he need a hdd and an optical drive?

will he be overclocking? if yes that spec requires a few changes..

I did try and realised I have no clue even by looking through others posts for conroe systems, and I couldn`t seem to find an existing spec check for around those prices so I thought I`d ask to get a starting point... then I can see what people might go for in that range so I know what to look for in "new" gen stuff... works both ways mate

Sounds possible... he won`t be overclocking I don`t think he is that way inclined... he would need a harddrive and optical but I can spec those myself but you have given me somethign to play with thank you :)

Quite a bit over, but worth it I think. You could go for a cheaper mobo to shave off about £40-50 (e.g. Gigabyte GA_945PL_S3). That spec assumes he will not be overclocking.

Also, what will the system be used for?

General, I don`t think he's into gaming much its just the usual suspects, he just wants something a bit meatier to spend some of his christmas bonus on that will last along time. His old computer, of which I`m not sure of the specs, is a PIV 2.4 so he thinks...
