Hi all,

I am in need of a bigger van and I think a transit will be ideal.
I could get away with a SWB but ideally a mid high roof would be perfect.

The choice of transits models is massive, and I don't really know the difference between them so looking for any advice,

I have a £1500 budget.

With that sort of budget I'd be hitting a decent commercials auction and taking my chances getting one of the back end of a lease.

Check out bca auctions for locations and dates.

I'd be wanting a 2001 shape onwards and I belive the 2.5 is the pick of the engines.

It may also be worth scouring eBay and the like for an older shape van that's had a lot of work done on it. The main killer of these older ones is usually rust.

for that sort of budget anything with a years ticket that doesnt make any funny noises.

tbh your scraping the lower end of the market here and whilst you might win a watch, your going to be hunting in a bucket of lemons for it.

maybe look outside of transits for your budget, look at the movano/primastar/traffic offerings and maybe ducatos buy on condition as they will all vary wildly at this price range your going to be shopping in the 10+ yr old market so watch out for corrosion badly repaired accident damage and plenty of bodging.

first question is what size do you want? SWB/LWB low top high top etc etc there is so much variety when it comes to vans and so many out there for sale, narrow down your search and decide what you need and go look at a few locally. for the love of god dont buy the first thing you see theres plenty of them out there no matter what spec you want so take your time and ideally take someone mechanically minded along with you to give it a once over.

Thanks for replies :)

I have narrowed it down to a SWB but high (or mid) top.
What I am confused with is how the numbers work (some are 220, 330 etc) does higher mean newer?

Also, should I only be looking at a Diesel really? Is petrol a big nono?

I realise now my £1500 will no go very far,,,I think £2000 will be more realistic.

Any suggestions welcome,
