Just ordered a laptop which comes with pre-installed Vista Premium and other software junks.

I think it comes with a restore disc with junks in it so is it possible to buy Vista DVD without a product code?

Thanks

I am pretty sure the answer will be no.... from all legal aspects anyway
I'm not sure you get what I was saying.

Laptop comes with product code which is tied to it. I just want wipe pre-installed vista with software junks off the drive, format and then install it with Vista only, no other junks whatsoever.

soz dude I know what you mean, but seriously the answer is still no, you cant buy a a disc without a serial num that comes with it. Even though you have a geniune license agreement with the laptop, it comes with a preinstall of Vista and assembled software from said Manufacturer, you really need to buy another Vista DVD to get around your situation, a valid replacement for Laptop software would still come with same image specs.

Regards

Vic

Even if you got another Vista DVD, the chances are your Serial wont tie up with the other DVD install.

Could you borrow the disc from a friend?

If so, would that be legal? I think not..... and again I dont think the DVD would Tie up with the serial, now go figure....

Since he technically now has an official vista key it wouldn't be illegal to download a vista dvd?

Indeed. He has the right to make use of his serial via a downloaded or copied DVD.

Im willing to bet a tenner it wont work.

OEM's such as hp have a license key which they use on pre-installed copies of the o/s.

So even if your laptop has a key underneath this wont be the key they actually used to install their customised copy of the os along with the junk.

In fact i have just tried it with my laptop and the key does not work.

I have a valid 32 and 64bit copy of vista home premium, and i could not install it on my laptop which has a valid copy of vista home premium pre-installed and on the recovery disc.

They use different types of license. (same number of digits and such though)

Tis annoying :(

If it does come with a restore disc, you might be able to edit the files that determine what is installed and burn a new disc.

Can you not strip away the pre-installed junk with some application cleaners?

Surely someone out there has made a program to restore an OS as far back to default as it can?

I have done this dozens of times with XP Home Edition OEM so i see no reason for it not to work with Vista OEM, as long as you use an OEM Vista install DVD then it should work, it deffenatly won't work with a retail Vista DVD.

If the product key that is on the bottom of the laptop is genuine then there really shouldn't be an issue, don't forget that you pay for the license and not the DVD media, if you where to extract the product key from a 100 laptops from the same manufacturer and of the exact same model you will find that all the product keys where exactly the same, this is to make it easier for the manufacturers to create an image so they can install Vista on mass.

As long as you use an OEM install disc your license should be valid and legal, if not then why put the product key on the bottom of the laptop in the first place.

This is correct. The only problem will be that it will not activate automatically over the net so you will have to phone 080 018 8354 and go through the activation process that way.
It's legal and it works.

I used to do that with XP but Vista...God, this is 2007 and Microsoft has gut to make things even more complicated than it was with XP!
