Hi guys,

Im looking at setting up a wireless broadband network. The PC is in my bedroom and the PS3 is downstairs in the front living room.

Want a wireless network so i can surf downstairs on the PS3 also, which is hooked up to my 37" Sammy.

Whats the best router for my needs?

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo dont touch Belkin...

Netgear or Linksys (I prefer Linksys myself) - WRT54GL, though probably the N version would be better...

ps3ud0

Netgear DG834G user here, and very happy with it. Use it for Xbox live and there are no issues with that at all.

Xbox is connected via a wire and my laptop is wireless.

Should i be looking at getting a 300Mbps or will 54Mbps do?

Im thinking either this: Linksys WRT150N 300Mbps Wireless Cable Router (£54.04)
Or this: Linksys WRT54GS 54Mbps SpeedBooster Wireless Cable Router (£39.94)

Go for the linksys WRT54GS. Wireless N is pretty pointless for browsing and gaming.

You could go for a lower end WRT from the bay.

Go for the linksys WRT54GS.

Only if you don't get a new one - you'd get a lobotomised VXWorks version. As ps3ud0 suggested, the WRT54GL is preferable: more RAM, option of using third party firmware with all the improvements that brings.

What sort of internet connection are you going to connect the router to - a DG834G or the ADSL2+ router suggested isn't much use on cable, and a WRT would need a separate modem to work on ADSL...

Im using the 4MB broadband service from Virgin which will be upgraded to 10MB in May

Im using a WRT54GS v4 with VM 4Mb - never had a problem...

Router is in my bedroom and have no issues with laptops when sitting in the living room...

Ive used the usr9110 wireless router for ps3 everything good, apart from streaming movies to ps3 from pc as the high bitrate causes slowdowns and it starts and stops using 54Mbps.So i ended up using wired router the netgear 834,that had no problem streaming hi def stuff from pc nice and smooth anything over 100Mps should stream fine with wireless if ya want to stream hi def.
