Need a word

I heard a word being used in conversation the other day, not knowing what it meant I Googled it. The description being something like 'pretending not to hear or understand a question asked in order to buy yourself more time to answer it'

I thought it was a fantastic word but I've completely forgotten what it was and no amount of Googling is going to retrieve it.

No, no and no. and as for my search history - while I said it was the other day it was really about 2 months ago and I don't have much hope in finding it

these are still not specific enough, its basically getting the person to repeat the question to give your self more time to think up an answer

Correct.
prevaricating is close but, when i googled the word in quesion the description was very similar to what i have put previously
