Need advice after caught speeding

Last night I was on the way home from Falkirk and came off a small round about onto the A9 (a nice wide open road) and proceeded to get down it. I then spotted a traffic cop car tucked in at the side of the road but by the time I had hit the brakes it was too late. I was pulled over and the officers pulled me over and rattled the window

I was caught doing 98mph on a 60mph road, it was 12:30 at night and the road was empty. I drive the road daily and know it very well which I explained to the officer.

I was then told to sit in the back of the cop car and I was given a big lecture about my driving technique. I was read my rights and told a letter was being written to the Procurator Fiscal.

I am just looking for some advice as to what to maybe expect as punishment for this. I have 3 points just now for speeding which was back in 05, this was accompanied by a £200 fine. How long will I need to wait to hear from them about it etc?

I know I am in the wrong and am fully responsible for my actions, lesson learnt this time as I have a feeling I might loose my license :(

Thanks.

Thats deffo a day in court IMO.

Im guessing at least 6 points, maybe a short break from driving?

One of my friends was doing 57 in a 30 - got a 30 day ban no prvious etc.

My sister in-law got caught last week doing 59 in a 30 - she is a new driver
i can see her getting a 12month ban tbh.

Yeah, it's almost definately gonna be a court appearance,

As to the punishment, I recently (wednesday) went to court for 84 in a 50, so similar to yours, I got a 28-day Ban and £100 fine (+ £35 costs),

If you have a reason for not getting a ban I think you may well get away with 6 points, I *think* the reason for my 'lengthy' ban and small fine was due to me being a student, hence very little income and all of that is taken up in outgoings, I think if i'd been working then they may have given me a lesser punishment but a much bigger fine...

I can handle the bigger fine, I would glady take that over the ban obviously. I was very polite about the situation in the back of the cop car. I am hoping this was noted and it goes to help me in court. I will just need to plead guilty and say sorry for my actions and take what they give me. Never been in court before so Im bricking it about the thought.

I cant believe their was a traffic car out at 12:30am with a speed gun :(

Court appearance imo with 6 points if your lucky

this is exactly what I hope for when my Careless driving comes through, dont care about the fine as I can scrounge for that money just cant be doing with a ban of any length really. Good luck is all i'll say.

nice sig solid - we have just picked up a SRi and that was the
first mod to get rid of the nasty standard grill :)

I could handle a month ban but it's the thought of that being on my record for god knows how long and I would be lucky if I can insure the car again.

It's currently at £550 fully comp at 24.

But 57 and 59 in a 30 is not the same as doing 98 in a 60. Especially 59 in a 30 for a new driver. It'll pretty much 100% be her being banned for 12 months. Was the 60 road a single carriage road? I think you may have to face the court.

Bad luck mate, not a lot you can do now until either a NIP comes through or a summons.

Did the coppers say what the likely outcome would be?

Its not a motorway, i was just throwing in some recent events for examples thats all!

And the 59 was on a dual carriage way @ 11pm (the road should be a 70 imo)

Andy

It was an the A9 mate, not the motorway but it's still a big wide open empty road.

The coppers kept on saying how it was nad driving and how they were close to doing me for dangerous driving but I think my attitude helped on that one. The copper said to his partner while I was waiting how he remembered about a guy who was jailed for near a ton up Inverness way. Some way to put the frightners on me I think.

They just said I can expect a letter in the post with an invite to court basically.

I got 4 points for 99mph would have been 3 but I had to take it to court because of 6 points within 2 year rule.

So you might be lucky and get the same.

What's the 2 year rule?

My last points were in Janruary 05 so more than 2 years ago.....

haha Ninja :p

Its a wide dual carriage way - but houses on both sides very close to the
road. When she told me she said "I've got 3points for speeding".

It took me 30 mins to get the story out of her then break the news she may
not be driving again for a little while. Nothing has come through in the post thou
regards court etc.

You are only allowed to get 6 points in the 1st 2years of passing your test. I already had 3 so I had to go to court and ask fro short term ban but they gave me 4 points and then the DVLA took my licence away.

I had to repass my test :o

i was caught at 107 on the motorway

so same ammount over the limit as you. I allready had 6 points and if given another 6 points could have lost my license for a good year plus

as it was, i turned up smartly dressed, admitted my sins, explained it was late at night, nobody else on the motorway, had been doing down hill and hadnt noticed my speed. I agreed that there was no excuse for my actions and left it at that

despite already having 6 points i was given a 28day ban and fined £70 for doing 37mph over the limit.

as what you should expect ? i would expect similar. but its no guarantee, these kind of things are up to the magistrate. they can fine you up to £1000 and ban you from 14 - 56 days or issue you points.

ps dont let them worry you, i was caught doing 107 and not one jot was made of dangerous driving or anything similar. but then that was because i was on the motorway

i take it this NSL 60 limit road is quite open and straight ? make sure you mention this to the magistrate.
