hi guys,

i'd very much appreciate your advice. first of all let's get my current spec out the way!, i'm currently running

AMD 4200 x2
550w psu
1gb ram, 400hz i think?
geforce 8800 gt
windows xp mce

I'm taking the plunge and i'm finally going to upgrade my pc. I have decided on a core 2 duo E8400, but i have no idea what motherboard and what ram woould be the best to complete my upgrade, so this is where you lovely people come in. thanks in advance for any help/advice you may be able to give

Did you have a budget in mind?

I'd definitely go for the kingston ram, excellent price for it. But I've no idea how long the offer will be available for as TWO runs out at some point today.

P45 boards are generally what you go for with an intel CPU. The P5Q pro board is a favoutite around here and will work well with the rest of the system.

I don't know if you wanted to give overclocking a go, if so stick a decent cooler in there, the E8400 should overclock very well.

thanks for the advice and help. err i'm not sure about overclocking, wouldn't have a clue where to start. and i'm no expert with pc's. budget wise i was thinking around 300, and that'll include the pcu

i was looking through pc today i found one of my spec me threads images. As i was going to build a pc about 8months ago and the E8400 was £114 (£95 excluding VAT). Now its £151, should have brought it then for my buid 3 weeks ago.

+1 Icey haj spec apart from i would go for the biostar board rather the ASUS.

I am running similar except e7400- e8400 to ££££. The combination is brilliant.
