so im currently looking for a new laptop for work purpose's only, im a graphic designer so mainly used for the usual adobe products, image editing and the occasional video etc.. my first thought is always a macbook pro retina. I just feel like i don't want to payout over a thousand pounds. So what are my alternatives ?

-High resolution, can be 13" size
-able to handle the high load
-pref SSD

any help would be great :)

I am a one of those who still believes that the Windows PC is better than the Mac as there are just so many more choices to make depending on what you want and you dont have to pay for a name like with a Mac. I have been using ASUS products for all my design and gaming needs as I am in the industry. I use the G series Laptops from ASUS, at present a G75 and there is nothing it can not handle when I use it for 3D CAD or gaming/simulations. I would recommend a G series as they offer a full size keyboard, 17.3 inch screen and dedicated graphics card with up to 3GB DDR5. I know you are looking to buy new but if you considered to buy a used one I do have a G74SX up for sale. Otherwise try to get a G75 used. Hope this helps a bit but I strongly stand behind ASUS as they are one of the best companies for customer support and updates there is.

You should take a look at the Clevo W230ST/W230SS. 13" with 1920*1080 IPS display. Mine has an i7 4702MQ with a GTX765M. The new W230SS has a GTX860M. Most suppliers of these laptops allow you to choose HDD/RAM/CPU to suit your needs. You can probably get one new for £650ish drop in an SSD and you have a beast of a machine for less than £800!

High-performance:
HP Zbook 15 Mobile Workstation As a civiel engineer student, I cant complain about this laptop. I work with heavy model/graphics/rendering engines.

I have to agree the W230SS..... this machine looks like a beast but where can I get one a little cheaper than starting at 650 ?

The cheapest site I've seen is probably from where you bought yours (ut?)

Cheers
