Hi,

My father has asked me to look into pocket sized digital cameras for his upcoming trip to Vietnam. Now he has a bridge camera from 2014 ish but says he barely uses it due to its size, he also has a low end smartphone but never takes photos on it. So is interested in smaller all in ones for ease of use and therefore more likely to use.

Ive been looking a lot and the prices seem bonkers at the moment. I remember a few years ago a decent one was a few hundred, now I see them for over 1000 easily. I see some second hand ones more than when they were released new.

I can go for the no name brands but I fear the quality of the photos and videos would be worse than his samsung A17 (which ive said he could use, but he doesnt).

So im here asking for advice, looking at what's available I dont think the budget is great at around £350, but hopefully some of you could point me in the right direction.

I would go to a camera shop and get a feel for the camera, also look at WEX as they have a good reputation and sell used cameras.

I’d personally look at something like a refurbished iPhone 15 pro… two birds with one stone and all that!

^^ +1 iphones are hard to beat for pocket sized point and shoot cameras. They have destroyed the p+s market. You can only find expensive options nowadays because the 'cheap' options are now all in iphones. They even do excellent stabilised video. Anything from a iphone 14 pro onwards will be ideal.

I much prefer it to the sony rx100 models because its better for video. Especially if you get a rode external mic for it and hand grip.
