Need Advice for Upgrading RAM

I have a Giga-Byte GA-H55M-UD2H Motherboard, with 2x2gb Dual Channel DDR3 240 pin Geil memory sticks, and want to upgrade it with 2 MORE sticks. Never really done this before but I'm more computer savvy than the average bloke... for example, I know what RAM does!

:edit: I am on Windows 7 64 bit, with intel i3 quad core processor overclocked to 4GHz per core, I want to upgrade as my idle system normally runs with 30-60% RAM usage and It has started to close games saying low memory - when I bought it from OCuk I knew the RAM was the bottleneck, and I was always planning on installing some more.:edit:

My questions are:

Would it make a difference if I got any other brands as long as all the other specs matched?

Does it matter which frequency I get? The Mboard can do PC3-8500 and PC3-10600 but I don't know which I have installed (would it be on the RAM modules if i were to open the case up properly - I've just been peeking through the side window!)

Does ADDING ADDITIONAL modules require any tinkering in BIOS or anything? I have an overclocked system running on 4GHz per core rather than 2.6GHz, this won't result in voltage differences or anything will it?

Thanks for your help :)

You can use CPUz to find out what memory you have already.
http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html
Its free, download link is on the right hand of page under the paypal donate links.

Once downloaded/run and click on the SPD tab, you might have to select the module number from the drop down.

edit reply to your edit.

4x2GB does put more load on the CPU and MAY require some voltage tweak to get it back stable.

Thanks for the reply

I used CPUZ and got this, assuming this is what I needed to look at!

(the other module is in slot 3, if that makes a difference)

So is it 10600ghz ddr3 dual channel I'm looking for then?

and could I have 2x2gb and 2x4gb?

Cheers

yeah, i would try and buy the same stuff or as close as tbh.

You could have 2x4GB and 2x2GB, but not sure what you could gain.
populating all the slots is what causes the extra load on the memory controller.
4GB is plenty tbh for most things, are you running low of physical memory ?

Yeah my idle system is normally running at 30-60% and about 60-85% when gaming. When I haven't shut my PC down for a while I get the low memory warning when I'm playing COD/total war and it closes the game.

The confusing thing is, when I enter task manager, firefox, jajaw, steam and skype will all be the most demanding processes, however, neither of them are EXCESSIVELY demanding, for xample, right now, 300,000 175,000 125,000 and 80,000k (it isn't normally that high)

Processors are 0-2% idle and atm I'm converting files to mp4 for my ipod and they're all at 50%+

well IMO if you wish to go fir 8GB kit, buy something close to what you have and sell the 4GB kit on.
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-060-GS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1517 is what i have (sadly you missed it on offer).
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-299-CS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1517 is probably what i would go for in your shoes, or if I could push a few £'s more;
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-061-GS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1517 for some CAS7 stuff.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the advice :)

Would that definitely work as from what I gathered, my Mboard accepted 10600 and 8500, these say 12600

I'm going by what this site says:
http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/listparts.aspx?model=GA-H55M-UD2H

Each memory slot can hold DDR3 PC3-10600, DDR3 PC3-8500 with a maximum of 4GB per slot.

Do you have any ideas on how much I could fetch for the RAM I'd be selling?

Thanks for the help :)
