I'm looking at getting my folks a new TV for Christmas to replace their 10yr old 37" Panasonic plasma.

I've got a maximum budget of £450.00

I'm looking for something between 40-42" LED 1080p.
It'll mainly be used for everyday TV, just setup BT TV for them along with FreeviewHD and the occasional DVD.

So far my list is:

Panasonic TX40CS520 = £359 - http://www.richersounds.com/product/tv---all/panasonic/viera-tx40cs520b/pana-tx40cs520b
Samsung UE40H6400 = £399 - http://www.richersounds.com/product/tv---all/samsung/ue40h6400/sams-ue40h6400

Is there anything else worth considering?

Thread resurrection! :D I decided to hold off buying before Christmas and instead try and pick something up in the sale.

I've looked again and come up with these options both of which are well reviewed:

Samsung UE40H6400 = £379 - http://www.richersounds.com/product/tv---all/samsung/ue40h6400/sams-ue40h6400
Sony Bravia KDL43W805C = £449 - http://www.richersounds.com/product/tv---all/sony/bravia-kdl43w805c/sony-kdl43w805cbu

As before it'll mainly be used for everyday TV, just setup BT TV for them along with FreeviewHD and the occasional DVD.

Same boat as you Valo and i've been eyeing up the Samsung. Though unsure if 40" will be big enough, it seems much smarter than the Sony and the fact it's got a quad core means it won't infuriate me with laggy menus. It'll take my Apple TV out of the equation as I can stream from my Windows 10 machine (with DLNA turned on) and use the built-in catch up services (iplayer, 4od, netflix). That, and I hate Sony's motion control.

Decided to order the Samsung as I think it'll suit them fine as it'll be miles better and a big step up from their old TV.

Can anyone recommend a good wall mount bracket for the Samsung UE40H6400?

Ive had this one a year or two now, holding up. 42" Plasma great:

+1. Been holding up my 50" for over a year now and it's solid.

Thanks for the recommendation. Just ordered one :)

I'm going for the Samsung UE40H6400 today from RS at £379 it is by far the best TV available within the price range.

I've decided against a 4K TV due to the lack of content out there and because of the size of screen I am after. Even trying to get hold of very good 1080 content is difficult enough.

Valo, how is your TV?

I had the TV delivered yesterday. I haven't had a chance yet to open it up but will probably hold off until the bracket arrives in the new year.

I'm very happy with my decision though. It's a good price and guarantee for what is reviewed as a great TV and should see my folks happy for a good few years.
