So my sone wants to upgrade his current laptop which is:

ASUS Vivobook 15 X515JA 15.6 Full HD Laptop (Intel Core i3, 8GB RAM, 256GB PCIe SSD, Windows 11)

I was just about to purchase this but have now been notified that it's out of stock:

MSI Modern 14 Inch FHD Laptop - (Ryzen 5-7530U, AMD Radeon Graphics, 8GB RAM, 512GB SSD, Windows 11)

He mainly uses it for general internet searching, YouTube and the occasional game of Roblox and other light games.

With a budget of £350 - £400 is there anything anyone can recommend for me please?

I would recommend 16gb and ideally removable ram
You really don't want to buy a laptop with 8gb of soldered in ram.

It'll just be landfill if you find 8gb insufficient or requiring you to use Linux

Dells have socketed ram at least my Inspiron 5625 does

Okay, so if I upped my budget significantly would this be decent?

ASUS TUF A15 AMD Ryzen 5 16GB RAM 512GB SSD RTX 4050 144Hz 15.6 Inch - £699

Much better than your original choice. The RAM can be upgraded if/when necessary; it can take a second M.2 drive so storage is easy to increase and it has an IPS screen. Look around and you might save £50.
