Need Advice On A New System Setup

Ok im in abit of a mess at the min, ive just given my gf my desktop so she can do her uni work on an im stuck with my laptop(aint to gd for playing games on.) I want to build my 1st comp but aint to sure what specs to go with. Ive also just preordered a Intel Core 2 DUO Extreme Edition X6800 (but still aint to sure to go ahead with the sale),Ive got Around £2000 left to spend any ideas????

Welcome to the forums, what do you intend to use your PC for and what do you need in terms of components/software? I.e. do you need a monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers etc in the budget or is it all for a base unit?

I already have a keyboard, mouse, speakers, monitor an case. so basicly i have £2000 just to spend on a base unit. it`ll mainly be used for gaming aswell.

What sort of monitor do you have? For 2k you swhould be able to get an extremely high-end spec. If you're running less than a 24" TFT you might be shorting yourself.

Right, basically if your moniter is around 19" or less, give yourself a maximum of £1000 to start with, this should give you the newest stuff, like grapic cards with all the features, anything more and the size of the moniter means that its a waste of money.

If your moniter is 19" - 24" I'd say £1800 and if its larger than 24" spend the whole lot.

If you are using an old moniter (CRT), you may want to just upgrade that to TFT, £2000 will get a decent moniter and a good computer to pull great FPS on it. I'd say get at leats 21" if you do this for your moniter
