Hi all I need some advice on a potential upgrade. My current rig is the spec in my sig. I have had my i5 3570k for 3 years and it has been fine, along with my 7950 GPU. I have been thinking of building a new system either a Skylake or an Haswell i7, but looking at costs I am wondering if I will gain or performance will be only a little noticeable. And also I suspect I would need more than my Antec 650W PSU for this system?

My main use is gaming, so probably an i5 would be better and cheaper but when Fallout 4 recommends an i7 then I was thinking if this would be a regular thing in the future even though most games don't use it.

My other option I was thinking as I need a new case as well was just upgrade the GPU to a R9 390, an extra 8 Gb ram, new case and SSD and maybe overclock the CPU a bit.

What do you guys think I should do??? Thanks in advance.

You sir just need a beefier GFX card, a SSD and overclock the CPU.

That is it.

Make sure the motherboard is on the latest BIOS as its one of those well known ones that need this doing to recognize newer GFX cards.

Your i5 is fine. I have the same cpu and don't plan on changing it for a while yet.

Your power supply will handle any single graphics card just fine.

Thanks for the replies. It is just something I have been thinking about and thought I would get the opinions of the knowledgeable people on this great forum to help me get ideas so I can weigh up everything :D

Did you mean to type R9 390 in your opening post ? As a R9 380 is basically a rebranded 7950 if I am not mistaken.

Yeah I did R9 390...oops Guess I hit the wrong number lol. I need to update my BIOS I was just reading to recognise the card. something I have never done before.

You can use Gigabyte's @BIOS to easily update the bios. If you don't have it installed you can get it from the link below.

You can either update from Gigabyte's server or from a bios file saved to your pc. It is easy to use.

Or use the guide that Stulid posted.
