Hey folks,

I put my rig together last November and all was fine until yesterday when i booted up the PC and it just beeped at me, long story short... my memory was fried (further testing leads me to believe it was just a faulty pair of sticks rather than too much voltage etc...)

Heres my rig as of yesterday

Processor: Intel Core 2 E6700 @ 2.66GHz~2.9GHz
Motherboard: Evga Nvidia 680i
Memory: Corsair TwinX 2GB DDR2 8500 C5
Hard Drive: 150 GB western digital raptor 10,000rpm
Video Card: 2 NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX's 768mb SLI
Monitor: SyncMaster 226BW(Digital)
Operating System: Windows Vista™ 32bit home premium.

I contacted the site i got the memory from and they are sending me out a replacement pair.

I was going to upgrade my memory anyway, so now im either selling on my new pair or ill give it to my dad.

Does anybody have any suggestions or advice on what memory i should be aiming for?

Money isnt a problem, but its not unlimited either... somewhere under £300.

Cheers.

Hrmm. thanks for the help.

Ill do some searching and see if i can squeeze in a decent performance boost regarding memory.

EDIT: Im reading a bit about 32bit Windows (be it vista or XP) not handling 4gb of ram particularly well.... Ie. you wont get 4gb... more like 2.5-3.5 gb.

Given that, and the total memory from the 2 8800gtx's 768mb (lets call it 1.5gb) would there be any benefit in me plonking another 2gb of ram into my rig?

Or would the money be better spent on a better processor? etc...
