Hello, I'm new to the forums and am looking to upgrade my PC and was told this is the best place to go for advice.

I'm looking to upgrade my current PC as it struggles to run most games with a decent FPS, I'm looking to be able to get good FPS on high graphics on new games and future proofing for a few years would be nice too.

So i Have a budget of roughly £1000 however it would be nice if i could build a good gaming PC for less and would like to recycle some parts from my current PC if possible. I will also need a new case as the current one is quite small and has a top positioned power supply.

So my current specs are:

Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-2320 CPU @ 3.00 GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.0GHz
Memory: 8GB RAM
Hard Drive: 2TB
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 6670 2GB GDDR3

My current PC also requires a dongle which I would like to avoid with the new one as it is a waste of a USB slot.

As you can probably tell from my terminology I'm pretty new to the PC gaming world so any tips and tricks that would help me with the building of the PC would be much appreciated.

I think I've pretty much covered everything there so i would just like to thank you for taking the time to read through and greatly appreciate any replies.

You could probably resuse your hard drive, 8gb ram and maybe your dvd drive, what speed is your ram ?

Do you just need a base , what about an operating system ?

thanks for the reply, I'm not sure what my ram speed is, do you know how i can check?

I think I may already have a copy of Windows 7 i could use but I'm not sure, I may need to buy one.

Here is a rough spec. I have left out the Ram, Hard drive, optical drive and windows for now until we know more about your current system.

So with the spec you have listed i would change the motherboard especially is you getting a new case. This will give you sata 3 and allow you to have a fast SSd drive.

Keeping your ram, hard driive and cpu.

Thanks for the help micky, I say you included an SSD in there and was wondering what they actually do? as i said i'm pretty new to PC hardware and was unsure if they actually boosted performance and how so?

Also, would you say that the cooler was necessary? or might i already have one in my current PC that can be used?
