need advice on upgrade path
i currently have a i5 2500k @ 4.5ghz and an r9 290

I plan on replacing both eventually,

my question is which we give me better results:
A- just upgrade GPU to either 2070,2080 or vega VII (have free sync monitor)
B- upgrade to a ryzen 2700x
C- upgrade to i7 9700k (least likely bc of cost and having to buy a fancy$$ cooler to OC, plus stuck with motherboard that has no upgrade path like AMD 4 does)

would the ryzen even help my FPS compared to 2500k?

which would you guys do first?

Welcome to the forum.

In games that use 4 or more cores, yes. In those that don't, i.e. 1-3 cores always leaving 1 core free for whatever Windows is doing, there won't be much improvement versus a 4.5 clock 2500K. Things will probably be smoother in online multiplayer games though.

I would do GPU first and wait for Ryzen 3xxx CPUs.

Is your monitor Freesync-compatible with Nvidia cards? https://www.windowscentral.com/list-all-nvidia-g-sync-compatible-freesync-monitors

What resolution/refresh rate?

Got SSD? What PSU?

my rig is hooked up to
1440p 144hz 27" curved (my main gaming monitor)
LG 4k 50" tv I play on once in a while only 30hz anyway
23" 60hz 1080p monitor mainly for diagnostics while gaming

240gb ssd boot drive (another thing i will upgrade soon)

3tb internal hdd
10tb usb3.0 hdd

PSU is a PC power and cooling 760 watt (its actually a re-branded Seasonic so I think I'm good on that atleast)
