Hi,

Basically my friend has offered to give me a monitor for my PC build as I only have a 720p LCD TV. The only problem is that it only has a VGA input...

Does this mean the picture quality is going to be rubbish? I thought VGA was used in old computers. This is the monitor:-

I have seen loads of forums saying how crap LCD TV's are for PC use. Is this monitor good for now? I will probably get a full HD one in the next year or so.

What do you think? Thank you for your time. It's free.

My PC build is going to be a i5 2500k, thinking about 6950 2GB gfx... I was thinking about getting a new monitor, but that will mean my PC has less horse power.

same monitor my school uses :)
id stick with the 720p TV.
but take the monitor anyway since its free, could always use it for music/web browsing if you usea dual monitor setup.

What about going dual? and using the best one for gaming and the other for PC use? What do you think of the monitor? I haven't even seen it irl yet.

ive got a 720p telly that uses VGA. no picture quality problems here. its a 26 inch so they would really show up if there were some

Is using VGA bad for gaming? The reason I didn't want to use my 720p TV is the fact that I've heard that they are rubbish for PC use. I also assumed that VGA can not handle 720p??

How would a TV be rubbish for PC use if it includes a VGA port?

yeah, use the TV for gaming(for now), and use the monitor for web browsing/music/messenger.

when you get a 1080p monitor, use that for the gaming, and use the TV for TV use :)

and the dell monitor is ok-ish for web browsing/ms word, general use really, not recommended for gaming.

I don't know how rubbish the TV is going to be though. Is there going to be input lag etc? Through VGA?

I'm thinking DVI-VGA. My TV has built in speakers, will I need a cable to run audio from the PC as I'm using DVI-VGA?

I have the 19" model of this as my off screen. It is a good monitor, but its not going to rock anyone's world.

try it with the TV and see for yourself, does your TV have HDMI connection, as this will carry audio from your PC to the TV speakers.
