I have just recieved an email from Paypal stating I have added a gmail address to my Paypal account and to complete a form if this is unauthorised. I haven't added any gmail address so I logged into Paypal, none of my login details have been changed and I can't find this gmail address under My Profile. Does this seem like a scam email? should I ignore or take seriously?

Cheers.

Cheers boys, I was thinking to ignore but never had an email like that before so wasn't too sure. Thanks again.

All genuine Paypal emails will have your name on them. If it says "Dear Paypal user" or something like that then it is not from Paypal and possibly a scam.

Very true, probably the best way to tell.

I got a spam paypal email not that long ago that went about how I needed to tell them my details (basically), and it all looked like the normal ones, but still just said "Dear Paypal user" at the beginning, so it was obvious it was fake (not that I would have told them my details otherwise anyway). But whilst trying to make the email look real, they put the disclaimer on the bottom saying that a real paypal email would have your name etc, even though that one didn't. *sigh* some people will resort to anything...

Had the same email today. No mention of my name in the email and there is an attachment included: form.html. Rubbish attempt at phishing as it was sent to a different email address to the one I use for paypal! I've starred the address in the email just in case.

Dear Member

You have added *********@gmail.com as a new email address for your PayPal account.
If you did not authorize this change, check with family members and others who may have access to your account first.

If you still feel that an unauthorized person has changed your email:

*Submitting the attached form will automatically restore your PayPal account email.

Thank You.

Here is the form.htm attachment that I'm supposed to fill in and send to the scammers:

I have never come across anything in paypal which you couldn't do without logging into your paypal account yourself. So never use a link from an email.

I have seen some very sophisticated attempts, which I imagine people would fall for.

Surely anything asking for your username, password, card number, card 3d authentication, bank details, etc. should sing out to you that it's a scam.

Delete and forget about it.
