I have a question.

o2 just rang me and asked me if i wanted to swap my broadband to them from sky. he's ringing me back soon to see what i want to do!!

I pay for 8m with sky buy only get about 4ish. o2 have said that i can get 8m with them at home (well they said 9.5m, but its not worth paying extra for the extra 1.5m)

I've spoken to sky who said they have done a test on my line and the most my line will hold is 4.5m?

I can cancel my sky no prob and the o2 is cheaper (about £3pm).

What should i do never had a prob with sky but 8m bb would be ace?

Thanks Paul

Without ADSL stats from your modem it's hard to say, but it's unlikely you'd get 8Mbps from O2 if you only get 4.5Mbps from Sky.

I cant i'm at work at the mo, but I've done line speed tests before and its about 3.5 or 4 most of the time!

Might change to o2 even if its the same speed its still cheaper.

Has anyone used o2 before?

take it the o2 setup is their LLU service ?, if it isn't i wouldnt bother.

cheaper if you have a mobile on o2 as well.

as per tolien post ADSL stats from router/modem.

There's no "line speed test" that'll give useful numbers without you plugging in the stats from your modem.

very much doubt that you will get more from one LLU'd provider to another. Unless sky have actually capped you (unlikley) then you will get the approx the same speeds from one provider to the next, as it is the line distance from the exchange/internal wiring in your house that will set the maximum speed for your line, not your provider.

Modem stats will confirm most of that.

ah didn't know that. I dont know much about networks etc, sorry.

i'm away for the weekend now so I might hold off with it until after the weekend, post some stats here and see what you guys think.

It's explained in the sticky. Providers stick their gear in your exchange, and Openreach connect your line to it.
