Hi there,

Looking for a new monitor, my 17inch is a nice size but I feel I need a bigger monitor, something with a little wow-ness :).

I have a VP171B, which is super fast and perfect for games, DVI, 8ms. NO GHOSTING and very high end for 17inch :).

I have a high end pc- 2gb ram, 7800gtx etc etc so im not worried about low settings in games.

Im interested in the ACER 19W16LS, it looks ok and widescreen rocks :P. But Im worried about the following things-

Quality?- at £180 it looks like they probably skipped some things? I want this monitor to last. I do not have the money to keep buying monitors :(.

Resolution not supported?- I play games a lot, BF2, Live for speed etc etc, will these games support the resolution that the acer gives?

VGA= bad image quality? My current monitor has DVI, will the ACER's VGA mean a slump in image quality?

Anyhelp would be great. Im looking to basically trade my monitor in, I dont want to spend a lot!

Thanks

It's a pretty good monitor, Acer do tend to make budget range screens, but they are often very good still. There are some good feedback threads on the 1916W here if you do a search, which should help. It's price is kept down because of the name (acer is not a premium name in TFT's yet), lack of features (nothing fancy here) and no DVI.

Resolution not supported?- I play games a lot, BF2, Live for speed etc etc, will these games support the resolution that the acer gives?

A lot of games nowadays support WS resolutions, and there is also widescreengamingforum which has a whole host of "hacks" to make games WS where needed. Double check in one of the 1916W owners thread about specific game support if you're still worried

The VGA quality on the 1916W is said to be very good, i doubt you'll notice much, if any, difference in quality really. Modern VGA only screens tend to offer good quality connections and good image clarity as a result.

It's certainly a good way to upgrade from your 17" screen, and not spend any money. If you're worried about WS format, then I would also suggest looking at the Samsung 913N which is very popular and efectively the 4:3 format version, badged by Samsung instead of Acer (same 8ms TN Film panel from Samsung, just in a different format)

Badass your a life saver. Thanks a lot.

Do these TFT's use the same screens as the acer?

19" Video Seven L19WA Silver/Black TFT, 1440x900, 8 ms, 500:1, 300 cd/m2, Speakers

19" Viewsonic VA1912W Grey TFT, 1440x900, 8 ms, 500:1, 300 cd/m2, Speakers

I'm thinking of buying these over the Acer as they are around the same price (VIDEO SEVEN is £155) and they look like the same spec.

Thanks.

they sure do. My apologies, above i said the Acer 1916W was using a Samsung 8ms TN Film panel, it's actually a Chi Mei Optoelectronics (CMO) TN Film panel, the M190A1

you can find out what panel a TFT uses btw by using the panel search tool here. You can search by model, panel part number (change drop down to panel) or even panel size. eg, putting in "19"WS" into the "panel" drop down search returns all the 19"WS models in the database. Putting in the CMO part number above shows all models using that same panel. Anyway, might be useful for you :)

Thanks again badass. Could you please close this thread? I want to make another-one asking about user reviews and the bad pionts of the monitor. (Good pionts dont really help me :P )

Thank you.
