Hey Guys

My Current Spec

Q660 G0 @ 2.4 Ghz
Locked Foxconn Motherboard.........
Sapphire HD 5850
2GB DDR2 RAM
Be Quiet 530W PSU

what should i do to get ready for BF3??? i will be adding 2gb DDR3 ram but i dont know which motherboard to get. i want one that isn't too expensive but will give me a good overclock for high end gaming.......

Dude, finding a motherboard thats still lga775 and that takes your DDR2 and DDR3 is going to be next to impossible (if there is such a thing? I seen a few AMD boards with it) then it may not work with both types of RAM installed, so getting a full 4GB kit would be smarter then go from there.

So 2X2GB DDR3 kit is £35 ish.

Then find a lga775 DDR3 motherboard either new or used for the rest of your gear, that will let you overclock with a nice big heatsink added too.

No No No, im looking for a DDR3 motherboard. what do you think i should do?
which should i get?

DDR3 on an LGA775 motherboard is a waste tbh, though a minimum of 4gb is required.

What sort of cash can you spend?

£65-80 pound just on the motherboard.

and why is DDR3 on a LG775 Mobo a waste..........???

Well OCUK stock almost nothing, the P45 boards are like £100, shocking prices.

The Clearance section has nothing.

Members market im afraid for you.

Which motherboard would u recommend i look for.

I know very little about good overclocking 775 boards, Then theres the issue of finding one with DDR3 support, I have just gone through about 10 different boards at Gigabytes website using various chipsets and they all seamed DDR2, a few P45 boards were DDR3.

nvidia did chipsets for them too, they maybe DDR3 as well.

Your sig. is too big:

You may use a signature (commonly used in email messages) in your posts. You can specify in your profile a signature to use at the bottom of your posts. When you post, there is an option to use your signature. A signature may contain one or more images but they must fit within a box with maximum dimensions of 400 x 75 pixels (width x height) and with a maximum (combined) file size of 20k. Images containing mostly very large words or animated .gifs will not be permitted. You may also add 1 consecutive lines of normal or smaller text directly above or underneath the image with no spaces inbetween image and text. If no images are used then up to 4 consecutive lines of normal or smaller text is permitted. Do not pad out your text lines with blanks lines. A line of text is defined as having a maximum length of 400 pixels. If you want to turn the signature off in the future, you can come back and edit your post. If you have specified a signature in your profile, the box will be automatically ticked for you.

The forum Dons/Admins reserve the right to judge individual signatures, particularly those deemed to contain material of an adult or offensive nature. If the Dons/Admins think the signature is unsuitable for a family orientated forum, then it will be removed. If the user then replaces it without making changes, they will be suspended.

And don't link to competitors:

We, Overclockers UK (OcUK) are happy to provide the resources of these forums to responsible individuals without charge. They cost a substantial amount of money to maintain and use considerable amounts of bandwidth which is paid for exclusively by us. As you know OcUK are in the computer hardware business and therefore the promotion of OcUK's competitors is forbidden. Examples of promotion are :-

Posting links to competitors websites
Posting links to reviews that promote competitors
Quoting the names or contact details of competitors
Offering to provide the names or contact details of competitors
Hinting about product availability at competitors and their pricing
Using the forums to notify a member of intent or actual supply of names or contact details of competitors
Listing competitors names, URL's or e-mail addresses in signatures
Listing competitors names, URL's or e-mail addresses in profile
Posting links to or the mentioning of auction sites
Disguising attempts to do any of the above

If you had read the FAQ's when you signed up you would know that linking to other shops is a bannable offense.

Sorry B&W for messing up your thread. Lets get back on topic.

I would recommend the Gigabyte GA-EP45T-UD3LR motherboard for your price and requirements.

Good luck finding one :)

I had the Asus p5KC which allowed either DDR2 and DDR3. Running with 4gb of DDR2, some DDR3 came into the workshop so I took the opportunity to try it out (naughty). The results were near enough identical, and in some cases worse.. even when increasing the frequency of the RAM. I've never been overly convinced about the combination boards as my overclocking was severely hampered, so i sold it.

However, since you are running only 2gb of DDR2, then buying a cheap secondhand combo board and DDR3 may be a good option. But I would certainly look at upping the speed of your Q6600.

i will be getting rid of the DDR2 2GB Ram and using 4GB DDR3 only.

Any reason for specifically wanting DDR3? It is cheaper at the moment but I doubt you will see the difference plus some 775 boards which take the DDR3 memory can be very fussy. I would stick with DDR2 (while cursing the prices) and buy a P5Qdeluxe board. Great crossfire boards and very good for overclocking :) Quire a few about on ebay though you may find better priced ones in the MM?

DDR3 because its cheaper and faster + DDR2 is expensive and its ****e to be honest now.

still stuck with which mobo to get.
