More than happy with my 1.6 Focus mk1 at the moment but soon its going to be time to get something a bit bigger. Thoughts and suggestions welcome.

I like cars but financially they are a mode of transport for me, I don't care if its got active dingles or triple K bars. Will it get me and all my **** to my destination, will it be comfy for me and the passengers and has it got a bit of poke to have some fun when I'm out on my own. The fact that I can have that fun in my current car should tell you how low my standards are :D

I only do about 6k a year so slightly high mileage isn't a problem as it'll soon fall below. It'll not be traded in after 3 years for a new model, like my Focus it'll be kept until either I no longer need it or its no longer practical to repair. I'm thinking probably diesel for the better running costs over the next 10+ years.

Have no problems with Ford, Volvo, Vauxhall, Audi, don't like the look of Peugeot, Citroen, Chrysler, Renault.

Something like this looks like it could be just about right but i have no exp with Volvo.

Not sure I would bother with diesel at 6k a year - can't see your costs overall benefiting. I do about 7k a year and bought a petrol 5 series touring to fufill similar criteria on a different budget.

The V50, although an estate, doesn't have that much space inside it. The V70 would be a better option if you want a decent sized boot.
