So i have just installed a asus ranger motherboard and a i7 4770k into my rig.

It now won't boot it starts to load windows then crashes.

i can access the bios and everything is set to default and i only have my boot ssd connected.

Do i need to do a fresh install?

Any help would be a huge help

cheers Andy

Go into BIOS.
Go to the SATA mode. If it says IDE, change it to AHCI, if it says AHCI, change it to IDE.

Older boards would default to IDE, so you'd install windows as IDE, modern boards default to AHCI (As it's meant to be faster for SSD's etc). So, now you've got waves of people with their current SSD's and set ups upgrading to new boards, but their OS is as IDE, and the board they're currently using is running as AHCI, but you can just make it run IDE too. Term's are a bit wrong, but I tried to make it simple :p

Classic problem!

i cant seem to find the setting your talking about, i understand what you are saying but this board has soooo many options its hard to find.

So is my ssd running slower when my OS is setup like this??

Just click "Advanced" then you should see "SATA configuration" (Or something) click that.

Then you should see the sata mode config.

A full install would work, but it's not needed.

Try disabling the "Fast Boot" option in the bios. Its somewhere under advanced settings cant remember where exactly.

EDIT: Nvm you fixed it ignore me.

if only i knew bit earlier i have already done a fresh windows install as i had no data stored on the ssd anyway and i had multiple issues, a fresh install would be as ahci and wouldn't contain drivers and software from my old board.
But it blue screened during the installation any ideas??

idk,

how much memory you have installed? could try enabling xmp priofile1 in the bios to setup the memory correctly, then try installing

Flashing the BIOS is an option too, as updates tend to improve memory compatibility. If you haven't done it before, be sure to read about the process for your particular motherboard, carefully. Do NOT do it through Windows, especially with your current predicament.

to update bios download latest version for your model of board off asus website, extract it to a usb memory stick then boot into bios with usb plugged in and flash bios through ezflash
