My son's iPhone 5 screen is cracked and was I wondering if someone would kindly link me to a replace screen on ebay.
I seen this one.

Just seen this one

I have replaced iphone4 and 4s screens in the past so I think I could replace the 5 screen.

I see the one in the link doesn't come with the home button etc but after watching a iPhone 5 screen replacement on youtube I should be able to change them over to the new screen.

Thanks in advance.

Just use hot air to remove the cables from the previous screen, they are stuck quite well and easy to tear. Other than that it's simple.

The screen I used on eBay came with the tools needed and iirc was about £25
It was simple enough to do, much easier than an iPhone 4 screen and the replacement looks and works great.

I replaced a 5 screen recently, easy enough to do, the tools that come with the cheap ones are always a bit dodgy, i needed a Stanley knife as the thin plastic tools was no where near thin enough to pull the screen away from the case. May also want some higher quality screwdrivers, the screws are so tiny and the screw driver i got with it fell apart at the head pretty much.

With those screen though, you will have to unscrew the front camera also since it doesn't come with it, but thats easy enough to do, only 3 or so screws.

Just follow along with a video on youtube and its fine really.

Iphone 5 repair guide (written by me in 5 mins right now)

If glass is not too badly broken you can use a suction cup to pull the old screen away from the metal case.
If Glass is broken, use a flat head screwdriver or a thin knife to lever the bottom of the screen up.

Once its up you will see the ribbons are hidden under a metal plate held on with some screws, Undo these and lift the plate away.

Unclip the ribbons gently.

Now you will have two seperate items, the main unit and the screen.

You will need to remove various parts from the old screen, these are:

Metal Plate
Home button plate
Home button
Earpeice / top camera plate
earpeice speaker
top camera and speaker ribbon
camera plastic mount

First stage -

6 screws hold that plate in, 2 on each side and 2 on the main face.
Unscrew these and keep them safe.

Remove the 2 screws that hold the home buttons plate on

Take the plate off and attempt to remove the home button, WATCHOUT AS THE RIBBON IS GLUED, try and use a knife to seperate the ribbon from the screen very gently.

next remove the earpeice retention plate. two screws again, keep these in order as they are diff sizes.

Please be careful when removing the top ribbon, It can sometimes have the proximity sensor stuck in its little frame and can be ripped off if forced.
Once this is off you will see a small plastic ring attached to the screens glass, this makes sure the camera is aligned correctly and is good to remove and reglue to the new screen in the right place.

Now its all in reverse, Glue that ring on and wait to dry and fit the camera in place, Dont forget to pop the top Mic back into its rubber mount first ;)

Put the metal plate back on (big one on back of screen)

Then you can screw the earpeice retention plate back in.

Then its the home button, stick that into place and screw its plate on (Must be the right way round or button wont work).

Once thats on you will notice the screw on the ribbon is still in place (if you didnt force it out when removeing it)
make sure the little metal bracket that moves on that screw is faceing the right way and screw it down to the mid plate.

Then its a matter of ligning it up and putting the connectors back onto the mainbaord, Watch out here cus if you push too hard you can damage the mainboard.

Then scre the plate back on and put the screen into place.

Once done put the two screws back into the bottom.

Sorry about my spelling, i wrote this fast from memory. If you need any help send me a trust or here w/e

The batteries are so cheap on ebay i would replace that while your doing the screen also, to save you opening it up again in the future, providing it needs changing ofc :)

I've replaced the screen on my GFs iPhone 5 twice now and its not that hard. I found it quite tricky to get everything back in exactly the same place (mainly the front facing camera) and the screen is hard to get out / back in if the case is deformed from the muppet owner dropping it too much but apart from that its easy enough.
