So I've finally given in to the charms of Apple and bought an 80GB Classic (black, of course :)), and now I need a case for it.

I'd prefer something softish, as opposed to a hard shell thing, but I don't want a silicon skin.

I like the look of the Knomo leather cases on the Apple site, but 30 quid is a bit steep.

So... spec me! :)

Get an invisi shield, its a see through sticky pad that covers every area of the ipod. It's supposidly the same material they use on helicopter blades, it doesn't scratch so you can just put your ipod in your pocket without some huge case.

I bought my sister one of those for her Creative Zen.

They're ok to stop it getting scratched, but they don't protect from bangs and drops at all.

The only solution to a soft case without being silicon skin would be some kind of sock, or those leather cases. I find them to be too thick. I have a griffin reflect, its a hard case but it's very pretty and nice to use.
