The DFI board is a good one, excellent clocker, but the onboard LAN can be flaky from time to time. It only has 4 SATA ports, of which only 2 are good if you will be doing any clocking. It does ahve one of the best BIOS I've ever used, lots of tweaking options.
I've also got a Asus K8N-E deluxe which is also fairly decent, but the BIOS is not as advanced with less options, it's an AMI BIOS iirc. It does have 6 x SATA ports, but I can't be sure if it has gigabit onboard, which may rule this board out
The only problem will be that it's pretty hard to find 754 boards these days and 2nd hand may be your only option.
i wont be doing any overclocking or anything like that. Just need something that will replace my old Gigabyte board. I want to build a new machine soon but cant afford at the moment as I just got a Macbook Pro. I googled the MSI board as mentioned above and the only hits i get are for forums. Cant find any for sale!
Just had a look around over 30 online retailers and none of them has it anymore. In fact not many 754 boards at all. What i did find where plenty of Gigabyte boards so that's probably your best bet. One the same as you had or with the NF3 250gb chipset would be fine. Apart from that you are limited to Foxxconn or Asrock mainly.
yeah i dont want to spend a fortune on it but if i got something for my old gfx card id happily run onboard gfx for a while. Sorry for the dumbass question but do all mobos have onboard gfx?
No it does'nt. Most of the boards with onboard graphics are of the M-atx format designed for small desktop and media centre pc's. Nothing wrong with them though. I am currently on my "little" pc which uses a Foxconn NF 6150 based M-atx board. I use this one for internet stuff, letter writing etc. It will play older games such as Starcraft but really stuggles with anything from the past couple of years.
OCUK does'nt sell ant M-atx boards in the retail, clearance or B grade section. You will have to go elsewhere but they really are thin on the ground these days. I did see a Biostar Tforce 6100 yesterday for sale elsewhere. That has onboard 6100 graphics but don't expect anything groundbreaking.
You could go for that Gigabyte board and get a cheap pci-e card to tide you over. Something like this 6200 128mb at £29.36 would tide you over. Once again though, don't expect anything groundbreaking. This is the absolute bottom of the barrel.
Its a solid enough mobo, but no onboard gfx and absolutely will not overclock. Ever. Not 1 mhz.
Keep looking for an AGP 754 board, there's still a few second hand ones knocking about. But you might be as well off to do a full upgrade if you can afford it.
