I've got the itch. I've been clean for so long. But the itch, man, the itch...

I don't want to return to EQ. I have some great memories of that game from around 2000-2003. Have also played it as recently as 2011, but it aint the same.

Not sure about going back to WoW. Played at launch and quit when they killed open-world PvP. Was actually my first taste of PvP and it was pretty cool. PvE only games are also fine.

Never played Counterstrike, or Battlefield. I don't know why, but I'm not sure those games will ever appeal to me. I'm more of an RPG guy, who likes to collect magic pants ;) And +1 maces, of course.

What should I do, OcUK? I need an online game to continue the proud tradition of wasting my life ;)

WW2 Online Battleground Europe is now free to play. Free to play doesn't give access to the best equipment but still provides plenty to enjoy. Anyone who has never tried this game should jump all over the F2P.

Buy a copy of BF2 & go play on 64 man Infantry only No nade servers they are Awesome.

I can't see the appeal of dayz personally, although I love arma 2 and arrowhead. I would just rather play arma 2/oa as milsims.

I'm playing Xonotic a lot lately, its a fps in the style of unreal tournament. Not quite teaming with players but theres a selection of servers that get full regularly in the evenings.

www.xonotic.org :)

If you're a gameplay > graphics guy (not that the visuals are horrible or anything) I recommend FFXI. I played it from 2004-2009 and recently reactivated. It's a bit old school, having just celebrated its 10th anniversary, but still holds up well due to fantastic design, both artistically and in terms of mechanics. Nothing else comes close, for me.

The game is all about hardcore PvE. While many argue that it's "eZ mode" now due to a recent level cap increase (cap increased to 99 from 75, and what used to be hours of grinding from 1-75 has been reduced to a few days' play) the game mechanics have and, if recent releases are anything to go by, always will be considerably less forgiving than other MMOs.

Mobs hit hard, bosses hit harder, and combat requires good timing and extraordinary coordination in a group. Death is always completely avoidable with the appropriate knowledge/skill. Despite its age and having had 5 expansions and 3 add-ons, it's still receiving huge updates (most notably, a new UI and visual upgrades are on the way) and has 200,000~ active subs.

so is GW2 the only online RPG people would recommend?

I'll get shot down but I still rate Star Wars - The Old Republic (SWTOR) - I can refer you if you like gives you a trial up to level 15 - goes for £8.99 for the game these days, similar for sub but it does go F2P in the next few months.

Really? Seems all MMOs are going F2P these days. I'm shocked that TOR is going free so soon, however. My bro raves about it.
