Need answer QUICK

This is the story:

Bought Dragon Agr Origins through Steam sometime ago.Now,my Gf wanted to surprise me and bought me the retail version of the expansion pack Awakening.

Can i combine the retail version with the digital copy of the original game?

Sorry for the late reply didn't have access to pc for 2 days.Thanks for the info guys.Problem is though that no one exactly knows if it will work.I saw a thread on the bioware forums stating it won't work.The thread Alex74 showed stated it will work...I'm a bit scared to try it,cause the DVD is still wrapped in plastic.If i rip that and it won't work the gameshop will not take it back,or only pay me 2nd hand money cause according to them:Game is opened so probably been used already
