Hi folks,

Just in the process of ordering up the bits for a new PC and Im wanting to break the addiction to Symantec thats been in place for many years.

I recently tried out the NOD Security Suite but found that it lacked the ad blocking that Symantec/Norton has built in - and I really hate the flashing big banners and Flash adverts on Bebo/Myspace/other websites.

I emailed the NOD guys but they said their suite doesnt have any of this kind of filtering built in and its not something they are intending on including.

So my question is:

What AV / Security suite should I be looking at?

For reliability, speed and a small memory/resource footprint which includes AV, personal firewall (I like to see what programs are TRYING to access the net), antispam and adblocking.

Many thanks for your help.

Rikki

If you use Firefox then use Adblock Plus with the EasyList subscription. That will significantly reduce the number of ads you see online. There is also FlashBlock for flash files online.

If you use Opera there is a urlfilter.ini that does for Opera what Adblock Plus does for Firefox. I can email you that if you wish. And if you google "Opera +block flash" you'll find a bit of code that you can easily add to Opera to make it block Flash for you.

If you don't use Firefox or Opera but Internet Explorer then think about using Firefox or Opera.

This way you could still get the NOD32 Security Suite or just NOD32 AV and say Comodo free firewall. :)

Thanks for that, I was SERIOUSLY considering dropping IE when I get the new rig built. I think you may have spung it for me :D

Yeah all I use IE7 for is Windows Update. I use Opera mainly, most sites are OK in Opera. Any that aren't I use Firefox so I very rarely use IE7.
