need avi converter

i need to convert .avi movie files to either .mov or .mp4 so i can watch them on my ipod touch.

what is the most popular free program out there?

I think Handbrake is pretty nice. It's simple to use and quick too.

I use avidemux as it's very flexible.

The best one I've used is DVD Video Soft. There is about 8-10 different conversion tools in it. Google it. It's pretty good.

i like Xilisoft's software - uses CUDA or ATISTREAM for extra fast encoding
