need bit of advise regarding benefits..

basically after 2 years of employment in my current job, the company has been bought out and they've spent a year transferring our data into their systems and come the 1st July, they're getting rid of the staff, so will no longer have a job

in april, i'm undergoing surgery and they say i won't be back in a state to work until around october time

how do i go about getting some kind of benefit money? basically i just want my rent paid + basic bills covered

i dont have any kids or house to pay for, just my monthly rent + bills + phone bill

i'm not the sponging type, so please don't flame me!

any advice appreciated

Incapacity benefit i would presume dude

Pop into your local dole they will sort you out but not until april

Basically, dont get your hopes up

Go to your local CAB or benefits office, they'll outline what you'll be entitled to and how/when to claim.

Income Support - assuming you won't be in a fit state to work after the surgery - for you.
Housing Benefit for rent. If you live with parents you won't get this. If you live in Council housing you'll get the full rent, if private you may get the full amount but don't count on it.
Council Tax Benefit to cover your council tax. Surprise, surprise!
Phone bills, utility bills, etc, etc, come out of your own pocket.

You have a lot of notice that you're going to be redundant.
I would be looking for a new job starting now. Potentially you could be in a new job for 3 months before your op and if you've impressed then I doubt they'll bin you for being off sick.
My suggestion is get a new job now.

I agree, at least you know in advance so you have time to search for a new job.

Where about to you life? If you go on your local council website you should find a benefit calculator on there to let you know how much housing benefit and council tax benefit you are entitled to you. Should be something like this:
