looking for a cheap fan for a possible e2180 upgrade that will better help me oc it to at least 3 ghz, dont want to spend too much '<15' but needs to be better then stock overwise it aint worth it :) also... iv never brought a non-stock fan before so need to know what kind of compound ill need. looking through the site i find http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=AC-000-AC this one seems to be popular, so do i go for this one or can i get a cheaper one???

thats kinda the one i was looking at, but iv been looking at these heatpipes, how do they work and does a heatpiped' sink with bladed grill around it be any better??? i.e. this ?

Both heatsinks look nearly identical so I'm not sure what you're getting at. Also, the Akasa you linked isn't for LGA775 whereas the AC is. It's a good cooler for the price, even comes with thermal paste pre-applied to the base.

Using one here on my Q6600 and its keeping things very cool and reasonably quiet. The TIM is MX1 if I recall correctly?

Freezer 7 Pro is a heat-pipe cooler, and it won't let you down. It's possibly not the quietest at max fan speed, but it is a very effective cooler for £15.

Don't be tempted to scrape off of remove any of the MX-1 from the bottom of the cooler. Yes, there is a shedload of it on there, but it is meant to be like that.

thanks didnt notice the Akasa wasnt for the LGA775, u saved me potenial problems there :)

so; Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 it is then :)

I had the Tuniq Tower 120 on my E6600 but it didn't do too well, I then bought a Thermalright Ultra-120 which did the job much better, I can reccommend it! Although it is £40. If you don't want to pay that much then definitely the Freezer 7

Yeah, a little annoying (running one on a K8N Neo2 atm), although SpeedFan is able to slow it down to an acceptable level and still cools well, I really should get round to auto-configuring it to do that.
