Hi all

I currently have an Athlon 64 X2 4600+ Windsor with 2Gb DDR2 RAM on an Abit KN9 motherboard. The Motherboard is definitely dead, and I have suspicions about the RAM. I believe the CPU is alright. Can someone point out the current cheapest available RAM & Mobo for use with this CPU, or a very cheap CPU + RAM + Mobo bundle which will have at least the same if not better performance?

Thanks in advance :)

or you could buy the parts separately and get a better deal by taking advantage of whats on offer at OcUK ;)

with a quad core processor:

YOUR BASKET
1 x AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 840 "95W Edition" 3.20GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail £76.79
1 x ASRock N68C-S UCC GeForce 7025 (Socket AM3/AM2+) DDR2/DDR3 microATX Motherboard £33.98
1 x Kingston HyperX Blu 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (KHX1600C9AD3B1K2/4G) £33.59
Total : £144.36 (includes shipping : FREE).

depending on what kind of processor performance you want, swap the processor for any of these:

dual core athlon- cheap option
triple core athlon - cheapest option if you plan on gaming
quad core Phenom II - proper phenom II, better than the one in my spec

I'd suggest coughing up about £70-80.

If the RAM is iffy, might as well upgrade than replace (same as for the mobo). 4GB of kingston or XMS DDR3 RAM is £30-40. The same again for a budget mATX mobo.

Bulldozer is due in a few months or so we hope. Once these new AMD CPUs come out the phenom II processors i imagine will devalue quickly. If your CPU is good we can try and find a more modern mobo that will take it.

When you want to upgrade the CPU the hexcores will probably drop into a very tempting price range ;) I hate buying stuff then see it cheaper only weeks later!

What are your DVD and HDD drives? Recent mobos are dropping the IDE connectors, your lucky to get 1 let alone 2 for the HDD&DVD

*EDIT* Checked reapers suggested mobo, that will take your current CPU and also the phenom and hexcores, versatile lil mobo for the money.....only 1 IDE connector but I think that's all your gonna get.
