Hey guys,

I just ordered my new Dell XPS M1730 Crimson Red Lappy!

I know it takes up to 10 days for delivery *once payment has gone through*, but wanted to know if anyone else also owns one of these big babies and how long it took for theirs to arrive?

I took the basic package with Windows Vista instead of Home Premium. So it only came to just under £2,000.

Cant wait!!!

I bought my Dell XPS1730 from a London based reseller as they had one in stock which meant I didn't have to wait.

However, I have bought other laptops direct from Dell before. Usually the payment clears straight away and and then you wait anything from 3 days to 3 weeks for the laptop to arrive.. Dell's order tracking system is crap IMO, and this is a busy time of year for them, as they get lots of orders from students about to start their 1st year at Uni.

If your payment doesn't clear within a day of ordering it may be because your CC company has stopped the transaction for security reasons. If that is the case, you need to phone the CC company up.

When you're spending 2 grand on a machine, why would you skimp on the OS? It's a very nice system, but Vista Home Premium would suit it better, if only for the fact that it's nicer to look at.

I think he meant he upgraded the OS to Vista Ultimate instead of Home Premium. You can't choose Vista basic on the Dell website - Home Premium is the standard option.

To be honest their order tracking is complete rubbish..

I ordered and the sales guy told me i would get it by the end of the week (Monday order, for delivery by friday). The tracking system kept telling me I would get it in 3 weeks, but he was true to his word and it arrived on the friday.

Yea my apologies, I meant I upgraded to Vista Ultimate instead of Home Premium.

The order tracking as of right now says its in Production Phase 3... which means it is being built and tested.

This is just the day after, so I am happy about this seeming to be quite quick. However, I just hope that Production does not take that long, I did not pick any additional hardware for this system, so it should pretty much be a choice of installing the software and then testing it.

I will keep you guys informed if anything changes!
