iam currently running a His iceq boost 7950. I have now got the cash to either get another one and go crossfire or sell my 7950 (ive got a buyer ) and with the combined cash either get a evga superclocked gtx 770 or the gainward phantom gtx 770.... what would be my pros and cons for either.would i get a big boost in performance with the crossfire compared to the single card.....hoping to go 27" 144mhz monitor at xmas as well so there is that to consider...any advice chaps cos i basically got until Saturday to make my mind up...cheers

CF 7950 fps will certainly be significantly faster than a 770 in the long run but I do have my concerns with CF driver issues that show much more fps on fraps than is actually being displayed on the screen. There is a driver fix due out soon though and the results with the beta are great:

Is a 770 now and maybe another later in the year not an option? 770 sli will put any single gpu to sleep no questions. Though AMD fans will argue the free games give you extra fps in 7950 vs 770 trolololol

I have crossfire 7970s and havnt had a problem radeon pro has not been ablew to sort out for me. New frame-rating drivers are due as well so I would recommend crossfire to anyone thinking about it.

Thanks for the replys guys....I've never done xfire so this would be an ideal and 1 off chance to do so...as for going for a single gtx 770 now then adding another 1 I think if I suggested that to the Mrs I would be looking for a new home for myself and my PC...I've just ad a new system that cost over a grand .......

Well, I took the plunge an got myself a second his 7950. Right some silly crossfire questions.
1..is it best to do a quick benchmark ,systems quite new so I haven't done any yet, just to see what scores I'm getting with just the 1card first?
2.. After fitting the card will my comp recognise that it will be running crossfire or doing have to manually do it?
3.. Do I have to reinstall drivers and if so should I use the beta drivers....
4..when everything's installed do it benchmark it again to see what the difference is?
5.. I've never over clocked before so if I have a go do I use MSI afterburner or radeon pro?.
Any advice would be most welcome.

Yeah it would be a good idea to do a quick benchmark like unigine heaven before and after installation. I am yet to use xfire apart from with a 6990 but I would imagine the latest Catalyst drivers should recognise the other 7950 automatically.

I use EVGA precision for overclocking and it works very well.

1. Unigine Valley.
2. Once you've added the card and installed the drivers, crossfire should apply automatically.
3. Use the latest beta drivers, 13.6 beta 2. Uninstall any old drivers first.
4. Sorry this question makes no sense. Can i phone a friend?
5. Use msi afterburner for overclocking. Disable ULPS in afterburner!!
6 Use radeonpro to cure microstutter issues, if you have any.

Thanks for the advice guys.?sorry about that benchmark question...how if should av read was ........is it a good idea to bench the system once the crossfire is running just to see the difference between 1 card and 2 ....hope that makes more since..
Just one more thing ..I got my free games with the card.....can't wait to install them.....and play BioShock and crysis3

Well a 770 isn't significant jump in performance over a 7950. To be honest, not many single GPU's are a massive jump over the 7950. I guess the 780 is a fair bit quicker, 30% maybe? Best option is to add another 7950.

Really enjoying all games so far with Crossfire. Metro LL with 100+fps is just superb :D Plus can't wait till end of the month for these new Drivers for frame pacing.
