Need convincing to get a PS3

just wait untill some games you want come out i.e. MG4

This way you will actually enjoy it and the price maybe cheaper at that time

If i had the money for a PS3, i would buy one ( Already got 360 )

It is a great console, very well built without any problems. Has got a great blu-ray player and upscaling DVD player, media streaming and IMO has the better controller.
The main argument against getting one is the games, which is obviously the most important thing. I am not sure about you, but i don't buy like 5 games a month, and i wouldn't even if i had the money to. I get a lot of play time out of my games, becuase i pick the best ones. You could buy resistance and motorstorm for now, these will last you ages with the single player and multiplayer. Then if you want to try something new, pick up ninga gaidan, oblivion, ridge racer, F1 and others.

I don't think that is bias, i own a 360 after all and love it. But i do intend to get a PS3.

The PS3 exclusives are average at the moment, hence the scores. The only way they can be classed as good games is if they are compared to other titles on the PS3.

The one exclusive I loved was Virtua Fighter 5, which is brilliant, but an improved version is being released on the Xbox360.

If ever you need convincing to buy something then it's never the actual time to buy it. IF you really wanted it you'd have bought it without question.

Been thinking about getting a PS3 over the last few days with the bundle deals around, but what's putting me off is the games - even some of the best PS3 games, Motorstorm/Resistance, get pretty average user reviews on Gamespot, like way lower than Gears/Forza 2. The other games I might be interested in - F1/VF5 again very average scores. Genji (which I mention cause it's in some of the bundles) gets slated pretty much, and Ninja Gaiden Sigma isn't my sort of thing. Oblivion/Fear/Vegas I've already played on 360 or PC.

So then I took a look at upcoming PS3 titles, and until we get to the likes of FF13 (not my sort of thing but my brother loves them), Little Big Planet, the new full Wipeout game and GT5 (both definitely my sort of thing), which are all due next year, there really doesn't seem to be much on the immediate horizon right now - just GTA4 which I can pick up on the 360, and GT5 Prologue/Wipeout HD/GT HD which aren't full games. There are some other good games on the way over the next few months but they're all coming out on 360 too.

Anyone bought a PS3 and either loving it or bored of it and want to have a go at convincing me either way? I wouldn't want to waste half the warranty with it collecting dust when I could just as well buy it (probably cheaper too) at christmas.

Im in basically the same position as you, i've seen all the good games on the horizon and stuff like home and thought hell yeah i want a piece of that. But the fact is theres not a single game out now or in the next couple of months that i want to play. So im going to wait until next year when the first good game comes out that i want to play, hopefully the console will be cheaper as well.

My opinion on the PS3 is pretty meh! In fact, I have nop PS3 games as I sold them all on as none were worth keeping, however, a few good and bad poin ts from my perspective

Pros:
1. It plays DVD's nicely and upscales better than my TV does (some TV's are better than others at upscaling, so this isn't necessarilly a bonus).
2. It plays PS2 games upscaled (great as I never really got into PS2, so can now play Ico, Gods of War, and Shadow of the Collosus).
3. It's quieter than the 360.......but by no means silent, and as such is pretty abhorant as a topend home cinema bluray player.
4. Nice touch sensitive buttons.
5. Did I mention it upscales DVD's quite nicely?

Cons:
1. Absolutely no must have PS3 games.
2. Every multiplatform game so far (with the exception of Oblivion) is better on the 360.
3. Crud front end, with confusing and idiotic option menus!
4. Not silent enough to be considered for use as a top end Bluray player (neither is the 360, so a standalone is defo required for me).
5. Upscaling is only via HDMI with HDCP enabled.
6. Uses more power than my PC and 42" TV combined!
7. Price is still enormous (although I got mine with RfoM for ~£270, I'd be dieing right now if I'd poaid any where near full price).
8. Did I mention there are absolutely no must have games?

What PC and 42" Tv do you have ? Most 42" use between 150-300W and I would have thought that your PC would have used more than 150w on load?
PS3 at peak use 212Watts, my PC uses 380W

I would just like to say and WITHOUT turning this thread into a slagfest. That any improvement made to the Virtua Fighter Series will be made Void by the Pad it's to be played with :p Sony's Pad is king when it comes to Fighting games. IMO ofcourse, Just so people dont jump on me and tell me how wrong i am :D

Could you not detect the sarcastic nature of my post? That wasn't meant as a straight comparison, but to emphasis a point - ie it uses lots of power!
btw, my PC actually only has a 150w PSU anyway, so peak draw would be significantly less than that, but that's by the by.

I re-read your post and I have to say there was no obvious sarcasm in that post at all.

The 360 only uses about 10 watts less. If you have both, there goes the carbon footprint.

Sega Saturn has the best fighting game pad. Dreamcast has the best fighting game joystick.

personally if i was to buy now i would get a PS3, the games coming up over the next few months are great
And the current games on are better on the 360 simply because they are ports (on the whole)onto the ps3 imo when they start coding games of the ps3 architecture i think it will pull ahead
Sony at E3 made microsoft's showing look boring tbh, and if you already have a 360 then you dont need to worry about Halo 3 :p

Just on a few specific points - already got a nice upscaling HDMI dvd player (sony NS76) and TBH I personally wouldn't want to use either PS3 or 360 for playing HD movies long term because of the power consumption.

I agree about the killer apps on the way, especially GT5 (never been into MGS btw) but even GT5 Prologue is over 3 months away IIRC and it'll probably be quite limited compared to the full GT5 - a couple of tracks, 20 cars etc. As for great exclusive PS3 games coming in the next few months, I've had a good look at the release lists and I'm not seeing anything that would appeal to me apart from Haze and that's end of november. Pretty much made up my mind to wait till christmas now, but I appreciate all the opinions, cheers guys :)

no i meant one word, when, not correcting you :p

and come on GT HD isn't a real game, we're talking GT5
hehe sorry wasnt reading properly
they didnt say anything other than in 2007, i would take a guess at x-mas time as the prologue is in October

Also remember the xbox version of UT3 will have no player made content, whereas the PS3 version will

Far as cheapest console xbox wins hands down, especially since you can hack it out to play imports among other things using 3 screwdrivers :p (i can say that right?) but considering the break down record its not wise to nullify your warranty ><
