I am looking to step up this machine thats sorta been slowly dieing out for a fair bit, it's still using DDR2 and an old celeron on the 775 socket.

What I have is:

GTX260
XFX 650watt PSU
Brand new case, unsure on type but its decent

So I need a motherboard, CPU, Ram and a HDD. Problem is I need all these within £300.

I am not sure if the GTX260 will still perform ok in games with medium graphics but its <1gb RAM is going to hamper it pretty bad at high res.

Here is what I was thinking off if I just kept the GTX260 in it:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i3-3220 3.30GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £91.99
1 x Gigabyte Z77-DS3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £75.98
1 x Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 16MB Cache - OEM (WD5000AAKX) HDD £43.99
1 x Samsung Green (MV-3V4G3D/US) 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz 30nm Dual Channel Kit £35.99
Total : £259.36 (includes shipping : £9.50).

But is there really any point with haswell around the corner? I would not be upgrading it again and it is just for some lightish gaming, I was consideirng going with an APU based CPU since it's basically the same as the i3 but with a 6770 built in, which afaik is a faster chip than my GTX260.

Depends how desperate you are to upgrade and if you want to pay the full retail price once released.

The pc does get used a lot downstairs for gaming but nothing overwhelming but I can feel it starting to really drag out, it is defo starting to feel really slow lol.

I am not really concerned about paying for a chip + mobo on the 1155 socket despite it months away from death because anything decent bought now will last over a year.

1 x Samsung Green (MV-3V4G3D/US) 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz 30nm Dual Channel Kit £35.99

I think this is about as cheap as I can get it without a HDD, I can try and get a basic 256gb one somewhere, or even a 64gb SSD. Everything is stored on external, our movies and stuff and all that would be on the hardrive would be a few games + utility.
