Strange problem:

A PC I have switches itself off (and stays off) whilst booting up. Sometimes before the welcome screen, sometimes just after. I've tried a fresh format, and a new PSU. Same thing in safe mode. Running memtest now and will test temps etc after that. There are no bad caps (visibly anyway) on the motherboard. Just wondering if there's anything obvious I have missed.

Cheers

Maybe the PSU's you have tried are insufficient for the system? or it could genuinely be a board fault.

The one I tried was this:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-060-OP&tool=3

And the system it's powering is very basic. AMD64, 1GB RAM, onborad gfx audio and lan, 1xHDD and 1xOptical. It was brand new.

When you say board fault, what would make the error only happen at boot? any ideas?

It's passed memtest86 and now running orthos on blend, small ffts and the RAM one (can't remember what it is). All seems fine so far but I bet when I restart it, it'll switch itself off again.....

there is nothing on the board or behind the board is shorting it is there??

if you boot to bios can you get it to stay turned on there??
