Was gonna get a 2litre 52 megane 136bhp, insurance group: 8, so wouldnt of cost much on insurance for something pretty fast.

Recently been told that theyre bad news and to get something japanese as they are 1000 times better :P Just not sure what other car I should get

19yrs old with 1yr NCB sooo would have to be something like insurance group:8 or less :D cheers

Spending between £4,000 - £5,000 excluding insurance

19 with 1 years insurance = buy a mondeo v6 for a few grand less than your budget and put a bit more to, although tbh they're not hard to insure anyway, i got my ghia x when I was 18 with 1ncb and it was cheaper than a 1.6 saxo :)

Buy a 200sx for 4 grand and put the extra towards insurance?

I wouldn't pay too much attention to the insurance group. There are lots of other factors to take into account. If you like the car get a quote, might surprise you what you can insure.

im 20 1 year NCB and can insure a group 16 mr2 turbo import for less than 1k ;)

MR2 Turbo is group 20 is it not? At least i always thought it was when i had mine.

And yeah these are about as cheap to insure as you will get on an insurance to performance ratio.

Yeah I assumed all JDM's were Grp20. Well, not Grp20 as there isn't an IG for imports, but Grp20 prices.. if that makes sense.

actually supra twin turbos are MUCH cheaper to insure and are a bit quicker too? :p

Seat Leon Cuppra 1.8T 20V.. my sister has one, she's 20 with 2 years ncd and is around £500 fully c. U can pick up 02 plate ones for around the £4k mark.

Why do you 'need' a fast car at 19 years old?

Will it get you about everywhere faster because the speed limits are the same for everyone no matter what you drive. Fast cars just extra expense and expense I'm guessing is a consideration for you considering the insurance group comment.

Strange comment coming from an ex Pulsar GTIR owner?

Judging by your sig, it seems you've screw-modded your 306. Obviously you needed to 'get about faster'.

Screw modding a 306TD does not make it fast no matter how much you turn the screw, it just makes it less sluggish and helps overtake on the motorway.

The post isn't about me anyhow so as for Jez's comment, you're right Jez it probably does seem strange for me to make such a comment. But the fact is having owned such cars you realise it IS pointless owning a fast car on todays roads, and anyhow I certainly wasn't driving a GTI-R at 19 years old.

probably around the 1k - 1.2k margin

Don't see that happening realisticly.. my cars a group 6 and i'm still paying £1,300..

Edit, Sorry, and i'm still 19 and living in a very good post-code (Staffordshire Village) w/1 Years NCB

Oh yeah its totally pointless, but only in the same way that owning a TV is pointless, or other luxury items which dont actually benefit you other than for entertainment value.

Fast cars are a hobby, the same as any other. As such i wouldnt say they are pointless. :)
